Why is Community Partners Inc. a good fit for the BrightBuilt Retrofit?

Community Partners Inc. (CPI) applied for the BrightBuilt Retrofit because we have a deep commitment to sustainability and a belief in sharing resources with our communities and neighbors. We are committed to managing and reducing, whenever possible, the costs related to providing support to adults with developmental disabilities. In 2010 we had energy audits and weatherization upgrades done at several of our homes to take advantage of Efficiency Maine rebates.

Since 1968, Community Partners Inc. (CPI) has provided home-based care, life skills, nursing care, and community inclusion opportunities. We support individuals with developmental disabilities to strengthen connections in their communities and neighborhoods by developing caring relationships, volunteering and contributing to the sustainability of their homes. We envision a world where all people are connected and where personal and social responsibility is valued and celebrated.

We believe that all people should enjoy equal opportunities and that it is our responsibility to support informed choices and dreams. We believe that we have a responsibility to support individuals to commit to the values of living consciously on our planet, in homes that are efficient by utilizing resources mindful to the environment and to other community members.

People with developmental disabilities supported by CPI can be found shopping for their senior citizen neighbors, serving meals on wheels, or volunteering with the local animal shelter. They enjoy employment with local businesses and participating in community gardening. They’re learning to use cleaning products that are less harmful to the environment and to shop locally in support of their community. Their belief of living a valued life is not defined by their disability, but by the person they are, just like their neighbor.

So, knock on the door of your neighbor and invite them for coffee. When you meet a person with a developmental disability, remember that their life is similar to yours and that their dreams do not differ. We are happy to support relationships of family and community members. Communities are sustained through all of its members and together we can create more opportunities for everyone.
