Diabetes Training

This class is being held in Monmouth.
This Diabetes Training meets the requirements specified in Section 7.1 of the Regulations Governing the Licensing and Functioning of Assisted Living Facilities. Topics covered include:
- Dietary Requirements
- Anti-Diabetic oral medications
- Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, including reactions and interventions
- Foot care
- Lab testing
- Standard Precautions
- Dealing with Diabetes (illness)
- Definition of Diabetes, including types, signs and symptoms
If applicable to the individuals that an employees is supporting, the employee will also take following additional lesson(s) (an additional half hour each):
Glucose Monitoring
Topic covered include:
- Care of all equipment
- Discussion of safety (Universal Precautions, sharps containers)
- “Hands On” practice performing blood glucose monitoring
- Discussion of physician parameters
- The specific plan of care for the consumer
- Lab testing
Insulin Administration
Topics covered include:
- Insulin storage
- Injection techniques and site rotation
- Insulin types, action, and mixing
- Treatment and prevention of Insulin reactions, including signs and symptoms
- Discussion of safety (Universal Precautions, sharps containers)
- Observation of technique for filling syringe
- “Hands On” practice (non-human)
- Discussion of rainbow coverage (if applicable)
- The specific plan of care for the consumer
- Lab testing
